Doug Cassel

As General Counsel, Doug Cassel serves as Graham Packaging’s primary source of legal advice, responsible for all aspects of Graham’s legal affairs around the world. Cassel has progressively advanced to several leadership roles since he started at Graham in March 2011, including Corporate Counsel, Senior Corporate Counsel, Assistant General Counsel, and Deputy General Counsel. In 2021, he was promoted to General Counsel at Graham. Prior to coming to Graham, Cassel served as a prosecutor with the Pennsylvania Office of General Counsel in the Department of State, Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs (BPOA). He began his career working at a private law firm, Caldwell & Kearns, P.C.

Throughout his 10 years with Graham Packaging, Cassel has touched every aspect of the business, including working on customer agreements, litigation, employment, procurement, and intellectual property laws. This broad experience allows Cassel to effectively oversee the entire legal department function as well as the trade compliance department.  In addition to running the legal and trade compliance departments, Cassel is primarily responsible for all agreements with Graham’s customers, working closely with and advising Graham’s sales, operations and leadership teams. 

With approximately 20 years of law experience, Cassel’s broad knowledge and skills play a key role in the executive leadership team’s discussions of complex problems and creative solutions. Known for empowering his team to take ownership while providing guidance and oversight, Cassel’s leadership of the legal team helps support the overall success of the business and meet company objectives.

Education: Cassel earned his Master of Laws from Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law, his Juris Doctor from Widener University School of Law and his Bachelors of Arts from Gettysburg College.
